Ability, Motivation and Attitude
Filed under Coaching BlogSep 22Ability is what you are capable of, motivation is what you choose to do, attitude determines how well you will do.
Lou Holtz
Lou Holtz was an amazing football coach. He almost made me into a Gamecock fan. (almost!) Now he is a wonderful sports commentator and motivational speaker. He lead multiple teams to bowls games during his coaching career lasting more than 44 years.
Why the talk about this amazing football coach? He is the reason that teams went on to championship games. His special ability to encourage players to do more than they ever thought possible. We could learn a lot from this man.
Most of us know what our abilities are, and what we are capable of. Or at least we think we do. We never really know what we can accomplish until we push ourselves demanding more.
When we allow ourselves to remain in our comfort zone, we fail to push ourselves to do more, to be more. Our fear of change, or the unknown hold us hostage to live a life of mediocracy.
Most times, it takes a dramatic event in our lives to motivate change. Whether it is a death of a loved one, an illness, divorce, etc… These events motivate us to seek change within ourselves for basic survival. That’s when we find the strength to look inside ourselves to see our true abilities. It’s these events that either make us or break us.
Why wait until you are pushed into this situation? Make the change of attitude to find this strength on your own terms. Don’t wait until tragedy forces you to realize your full potential.
Believe in yourself and take that first step.

So true. And sometimes there’s a blessed point you reach when staying where you are becomes more painful than anything we’re afraid of moving forward..
