Reading Food Labels
Filed under Coaching BlogOct 30Recently I conducted a very unofficial survey in our local grocery store. Whenever I saw someone reading a food label in the grocery store, I would ask them “Why?”
The answers varied, calories, fat content, amount of carbs, amount of sugars.
Ever
yone was reading the same part of the label, the nutritional information.Reading the labels is a good thing. I just wish that people would read more of the label. Find out what vitamins and minerals you will or will not be getting. Even more find out what is in it. Read the ingredients.
If there are items in the ingredients that you can not pronounce or are not sure what it is, don’t buy it.
Make sure you know exactly what you are consuming and feeding to your children.
Monosodium glutamate, also known as sodium glutamate (MSG) has been linked to obesity, Type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. It’s a flavor enhancer that manufactures add to packaged foods to increase the taste and actually causes you to overeat. Sometimes on food labels it is listed as artificial flavors.
We should develop a close relationship with the food we consume. Would you seriously continue a relationship with a person that constantly lies to you? No? I didn’t think so. So why would you do this with your food?
Get to know what you are consuming. Build a trusting, honest relationship with your food, and watch the joy that comes with it without overeating.

Falling Down
Filed under Coaching BlogOct 24“Failure is not the falling down, but the staying down.”
Mary Pickford (1892–1979)
Canadian actressWe all have times when things do not go the way we plan. We all have times when it seems the entire world is against us. And we all have times when we just fail.
It is how we handle the disappointments that show who we really are.
When you experience failure, do you quit? Do you stay down for awhile, hoping it will all go away before you decide to take action again? Or do you jump back up with a fighting spirit?
Sometimes it’s hard to get back up and start again, but the effort is well worth it. The feelings of completion and satisfaction will make you soar.
