Change Is In The Air
Filed under Coaching BlogNov 6We as a country are now going to go through the change that has been promised to us during the campaign. We do need change to be able to prosper, and grow to continue to be the great country that we’ve always been. Change is good.
During this time of change, have you thought about other changes that can take place in our lives? A lot of you are starting to realize that the products you bring into your homes are damaging to yourself, your children, and your pets. So you’ve decide to go to the green, more natural products. But on this I have to ask you to beware.
According to the FDA, for a company to put “Natural” on the label, they only have to include a couple of natural ingredients, and not in large amounts. So again, please read the labels. Manufacturers have recently been putting the keywords of “Natural” or “Green” on their labels to not lose sales. It’s a new market for them that is working. If you read the labels, you will find SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) in a lot of the products, ranging from baby bath wash, to laundry detergent, to floor cleaners to anti-freeze. Can you imagine washing your baby with the same ingredient that you use to mop your floor or for cooling your car engine?
SLS is a synthetic agent that is to increase lather in bath and body products and detergents. It is proven to be very drying to the skin, removing the natural oils and moisture from the skin. Making it neccessary to also use a lotion (to prevent dryness, itching, and ashiness), which some lotions also contain SLS.
There are many debates and studies on SLS and it’s relation to cancer. For every study that says SLS is safe, there is another that says it’s not. The FDA says that SLS is safe in the small amounts, which only small amounts are added to each product. But what about small amounts in many products that are used everyday? Does that not equal a large amount? A large amount of SLS used on a daily basis from mulitple products for years. Is it still safe then?
I feel it’s better to be cautious and not take the chance with the cancer issue. Especially since there are so many companies out there that do offer an all natural product.
Change is good. Especially when it starts at home.
