The Stress Factor
Filed under Coaching BlogNov 11Why do we allow ourselves to stress out about the smallest things?

Is it because, we know of no other way to handle the problem we are facing? Or is it a learned behavior? My answer….All Of The Above!
We have taken our days and jammed them full of tasks that must be done NOW. If we do not finish our “To Do” list, then we beat ourselves up for not being as good as everyone else. We put unreasonable time limits on ourselves with the task we must complete. If we do not accomplish the task in the ti
me, then we must have been lazy, or screwing around killing time. There is a saying that stress causes gray hair and ulcers. I don’t know if that is true but I do know that stress leads to other health issues. One is sleep deprivation. We lose countless hours of sleep when we are stressed. Sleep deprivation then leads to other illnesses, it lowers our immune systems and opens us up to almost every bug and virus we come in contact with.
So with this, I will leave you with some wise words a friend of mine told me many years ago after his heart attack. “Whenever I feel myself starting to stress over something, I ask myself, “Is this worth dying over?” The answer is always NO.”
In the great words of Richard Carlson, “Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff….And It’s All Small Stuff.”
